Confession testimony received by pressure, unfair court - family of convict on "Bank of Georgia" robbery have claims

The family of Dimitri Golava, convicted for the robbery of the Bank of Georgia on Chavchavadze Avenue has complaints. They speak of the falsified evidence, the violation of the rights of the detainees, the confession and the unfair trial.

Dimitri Golava"s lawyer says that the 26-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment without direct evidence that he had stolen large amounts of money from the bank.

Dimitri Golava was detained on June 25, 2016 by officers of the first division of Vake-Saburtalo police of Tbilisi. According to the official documents of the investigation, Golava robbed the Express Bank of Georgia Bank together with the unidentified person. The Ministry of Internal Affairs also released operative material, according to which the defendant had money from the bank. During the search of Golava, a large amount of money was seized, but his fingerprints or DNA did not appear on the banknotes.

Golava was detained on Kipshidze Street after a special operation. Two policemen participated in the special operation, but that at least 10 policemen were mobilized to arrest a young man. The locals recall that the law enforcers beat the detainee.

The press service of the Chief Prosecutor`s Office said that investigation into the alleged ill-treatment of Golava is still in prosecutor`s office and the case has not been terminated.
