The opposition calls "incompetent" the initiative to hold consultations on constitutional amendments before the meeting in the Venice Commission . Representatives of opposition parties criticized the initiative of the parliamentary speaker about the consultations.

Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, believes it will not be right to go to the Venice Commission in Strasbourg if the situation is not prepared in advance.

As Kobakhidze told reporters when commenting on the constitutional amendments, the preliminary consultations will be held, including with the opposition parties, and the format will be defined as a result of discussions.
The main demands of the opposition remain unchanged and these are transition from majoritarian system to the proportions in the next parliamentary elections, as well as the direct election of the president.

Before the departure to Strasbourg, the Interparty grou, talked about the necessity of the internal consensus. Members of the parliamentary opposition also received a special invitation from the Venice Commission on constitutional amendments.

The parliamentary opposition thinks that negotiations can be held in case the constitutional draft law is withdrawn back.

Constitutional amendments have already been received with two hearings. The Georgian Dream plans to vote in the third reading for the constitutional amendments at the automn session.
