Opposition`s position on constitutional amendments is unchanged - parties address government

The opposition appeals to the government regarding negotiations on constitutional amendments.

Political parties have assembled to prepare a letter to Strasbourg today, but they said that before they inform Strasbourg about their plans , theuy would want to find out again what the ruling team is going to do and whether the majority is going to go to Strasbourg.

The position of the opposition is unchanged - conducting the parliamentary elections in proportional system in 2020 and direct election of the President.

"There will be no trade on these two issues, if the government is ready to talk about this, we are ready to help the country to have a good constitution," - said Nika Rurua, a member of the United National Movement`s political council.

Free Democrats Chairman Shalva Shavgulidze says that the opposition is ready for dialogue if the ruling team will compromise on the principle issues.

Chairman of the Political Platform New Georgia, Giorgi Vashadze, thinks that the government is trying to fail the negotiating process as the position of the opposition has long been known.

Bachuki Kardava, the chairperson of the National Democratic Party of Georgia blames the government in disrupting the negotiations process.
