Vano Merabishvili refused early release - European Court may impose sanctions

Despite the decision of the Grand Chamber of the European Court and the European Parliament, Vano Merabishvili remains in custody.

Former prime minister has been denied an early release.

Reasons are not explained in the letter sent to the head of the penitenary establishment, but it is said that a copy of the decision will be sent to the convict in the deadline set by the law.

The re-examination of the petition will take place within 6 months. According to Vano Merabishvili"s lawyer, the early release commission has made a political decision and the country is facing sanctions.
