"There is some concern that the demand for asylum has increased" - Interior Minister speaks about visa-free travel

A Minister of Internal Affairs speaks about the visit of German Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs to Georgia.

According to Giorgi Gakharia, several European countries express concern over the increase of a number of asylum seekers from Georgia after the entering the visa-free regime into the force. However, the Minister said that the issue of enactment the suspension mechanism is not considered.

According to the announcement, in order not to threaten visa-free travel, the Ministry plans to hold meetings in Europe and launch a concrete mechanism.

"There is no question of launching a suspension mechanism. This issue is not on the agenda and it has not been institutionalized yet, and reiterate that there are some concerns in the country that the demand for asylum is increased," the Interior Minister said.
