Detainees Arrested for Inhuman treatment of prisoners sentenced to two- months preliminary Imprisonment

Detainees have been sentenced to 2 months" pre-trial detention as a preventive measure for organizing inhuman treatment of prisoners.

The judge did not consider the solicitations of the lawyers who demanded the release on 5 thousand GEL bail for the defendants.

The judge took into consideration the prosecution demand and sentenced the detainees to preliminary custody on the grounds of possible pressure on the witnesses.

Former director and deputy director of Rustavi #6 Penitentiary Establishment have been detained on the charges of inhuman and degrading treatment of prisoners until 2012,- the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia said on Friday.

“On October 20 of 2015, the European Court of Human Rights determined a major violation of Article 3 of the European Convention (prohibition of torture) against the applicants because of the ill-treatment of prisoners, on the cases of the Gegenava and others v. Georgia. The State took the obligation to conduct an effective investigation. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was overseeing the execution of the specified decisions and the conduct of the investigation,” the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia said.
