Ex-Presidents, PMs and Parliament Chairpersons Remain without Security - Georgian Dream"s Initiative causes acute reaction

Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of the country remains without protection. With the decision of the Georgian Dream and the amendments to the law, the president will retain state protection for only one year after leaving the post.

The change of law started with the end of Giorgi Margvelashvili"s term. This decision of the "Georgian Dream" was followed by a sharp reaction from the president"s administration.

In case of amendments to the law, Giorgi Margvelashvili and his family will not be able to use the state guard after the expiry of the presidential term. Manana Archvadze-Gamsakhurdia will not be able to use a state car and driver"s service and security guard, the same applies to Saakashvili`s wife Sandra Roelofs and his son, .

One of the initiators of the changes is the current chairperson of the parliament. According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the aim of the changes is to reduce costs.

Apart from former presidents, security will be lifted to former parliamentary chairmen and former prime ministers.

The opposition is negatively evaluating the government"s new initiative. The MPs are convinced that the new change is directed against Giorgi Margvelashvili.

Temur Janashia, the former head of the Special State Protection Service, assesses the government"s initiative as a reduction in security guarantees.

The government has already sent a new draft law to the parliament.
