The sitting of "Georgian Dream" political council is over. Irakli Kobakhidze voiced the decision made by the political council on lifelong appointment of judges. Kobakhidze said that despite the fact that the ruling party suspended the list of ten judges, the discussion on this issue has become unhealthy. Kobakhidze says that non-constitutional draft bill was prepared on this issue.
"Some members of the majority , without the agreement with the team prepared the bill, which directly contradicts the provisions of the Constitution which, in turn, on the basis of recommendations of the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission , were designed to ensure the independence of the judiciary," - said Kobakhidze.
According to him, in case of adoption of this bill, the number of judges will be halved and the situation in court will be more problematic.
"Based on the above-mentioned circumstances, this draft law will not be supported by the parliamentary majority," -Kobakhidze said.
