Traditional Alilo march will be held in Tbilisi today. The participants will start marching from the first Republic Square at 14:00 and will go to the Holy Trinity Cathedral through Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom Square, Pushkin and Baratashvili streets.
The march is theatrical. The Alilo participants symbolize the angels and the Zoroastrians who were the first to learn about the birth of Jesus.
During the march, they will sing Christmas carols and exchange gifts. All the gifts, sweets and other things gathered during the day will be donated to charity.
Traffic movement will be restricted at several streets in Tbilisi due to Christmas Alilo. Besides, crews of the Patrol Police will coordinate and regulate traffic movement across alternative routes.
The Alilo procession was resumed in 2000 by Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II. The procession, in which ecclesiastic servants and citizens are involved, is held in the regions too.
