Those who did not vote for these changes due to narrow political interests and justify it with criminal cases, their justification will not work – the Prime Minister

Those who did not vote for these legislative changes due to certain, narrow political, selfish interests and justify it with some vague, criminal cases, their justification will not work, - Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said.

“I want to congratulate each Member of the Parliament on this result, all who voted for these constitutional changes, who was able to put the interests of the country above his/her personal, selfish interests.

These changes, which bring us closer to a more proportional electoral system, mean a few serious achievements personally for me. This is an irreversible process that the political elite of independent Georgia has been dreaming of since the 1990s. No one has been able to do that, and the Georgian Dream, no matter how difficult it was, mobilized its entire Government and did what it had to do, first and foremost, for our citizens and, of course, for further democratization of our country and irreversibility of the North Atlantic aspirations.

Today Georgia voted for the Euro-Atlantic integration and democratization. It is important that we all work together today to ensure that further democratization of Georgia and its Euro-Atlantic integration is irreversible and that we vote for it. Those who did not vote for these legislative changes because of narrow political interests, and try to justify it by some absolutely vague, criminal cases, their justification will simply not work for our citizens”, - concluded Giorgi Gakharia.
