Community officers institute launched in Batumi

Within the framework of the ongoing criminal police reform within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Community Officers Institute was launched in Batumi.

20 Community officers have already started operating in Batumi, Adjara Police Department.

The Minister of Internal Affairs personally congratulated the Community officers on starting their first working day.

Vakhtang Gomelauri had a conversation with Community officers and wished them success in their professional activities.

The meeting was also attended by the heads of Adjara Police Department.

The Сcommunity officers Institute is a model of community-oriented policing, representing crime prevention tool across the world.

Community officer’s responsibilities include many directions, such important issues as: responding to problems and challenges related to minors, domestic violence, neighborhood disputes, illegal migration, vulnerable groups. Its functions and duties also include: planning and implementation of measures focused on crime prevention; collection, systematization and primary processing of information; Proceeding of cases of administrative offenses; Responding to witnessed crime. In order to protect public order, community officers are in constant communication with the citizens residing in their operational area within the scope of the assigned mandate.

Community officers are selected through a competition, the winning candidates undergo several weeks of intensive professional training at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Community Officer’s Institute is already operating in Tbilisi, Rustavi and Batumi. The number of officers will be gradually increased across the country and the institute will be launched in all major cities.
