Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa’s first international visit this year is to Kyiv, which is a powerful signal of support for Ukraine.
“I am very pleased that you are making your first international visit this year to Kyiv. Thank you for this powerful signal of support for Ukrainian society”, - said the President of Ukraine at the meeting with the Japanese Foreign Minister.
Kamikawa emphasized that her visit was important in the context of preparations for the Ukraine recovery conference to be held in Tokyo in February. She noted that the two countries would continue to cooperate to strengthen bilateral relations and restore Ukraine.
At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed work on an agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine.
“The launch of negotiations with Japan on a bilateral security agreement is an important step. We are committed to active work to sign this document as soon as feasible”, - said Zelenskyy.
He also thanked Japan for its active support of the Ukrainian Peace Formula and readiness to take part in the next meeting of national security advisers to be held in Davos. For her part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced Japan’s readiness to co-lead the implementation of the first point of the Formula, “Radiation and Nuclear Safety”.
