The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia rejected media reports that said a US citizen had been subjected to police violence during recent rallies against the Law on Transparency.

“We would like to respond to the stories aired by different media sources regarding the violence against citizen of the United States of America, where Daryl Scholz notes that during the manifestation, he suffered multiple injuries to his face and head.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to clarify that, in recent month, the Agency’s Public Safety Management Center “112” has not received a call for assistance on behalf of the person who appeared on television. Daryl Scholtz had not been detained by the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nor was he transferred to a temporary detention facility.

According to the information available to us, the Center for Coordination of Emergency Situations and Emergency Assistance under the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Health, Labor, and Social Affairs has not received any request for medical assistance from Daryl Scholz in the recent period.

In addition to the mentioned, the ambulance crew has not transferred the mentioned person to any medical institutions from none of the locations of the manifestation.

Therefore, the mentioned person was not placed in any medical institution for further treatment.

Herewith, we would like to additionally clarify that after the mentioned information was spread, the Embassy of the United States to Georgia contacted the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to receive information, given the fact that they were unaware of the alleged incident”, - reads the statement.
