We want as many observers as possible to come to Georgia. We invited the OSCE/ODIHR mission back in February - Kobakhidze

The Prime Minister of Georgia, who leads the electoral office of the Georgian Dream, highlighted the importance of involvement of “as many international observers as possible” at the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26.

“It is important for us to have as many international observers as possible, particularly considering a completely tarnished image of local monitoring organisations. You remember what happened during the 2020 parliamentary elections when the parallel vote tabulation was rigged and false information was spread as if the Central Election Commission delayed the announcement of results. I mean the coordinated false assessments published simultaneously by several so-called local observer organisations during the 2020 elections.

Therefore, we want as many observers as possible to come to Georgia. We invited the OSCE/ODIHR mission back in February, and they will come to Georgia to observe the elections, along with several other major missions. Our policy in this regard is completely open. The more, the better - that is our approach. The focus will be primarily on international, foreign observers”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

The official also said the election campaign was being conducted in a “peaceful environment, with “no more or less serious violations or incidents detected”, adding the ruling party would “do everything” to ensure the continuation of the circumstance.

He emphasised the importance of the elections as a “decisive referendum” that would determine whether the country would “maintain peace” or the “War Party” would be able to open a “second front” in Georgia amid the ongoing Russian military aggression in Ukraine.
