Minister of Internal Affairs - Vakhtang Gomelauri is paying an official visit to the Hellenic Republic. Within the framework of the visit, Vakhtang Gomelauri, along with Deputy Minister - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, held a meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of the Hellenic Republic - Christos Staikouras.

After the meeting, Vakhtang Gomelauri and Christos Staikouras signed an agreement on mutual recognition and exchange of the national driving permits.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic - Levan Beridze and police Attache of Georgia to the Greek Republic - Shota Khurtsidze.

Upon entry into force of the Agreement, holders of a valid driving permit in force issued by one of the parties will be able to obtain the equivalent driving permits in the state of their legal residence without passing a theoretical or practical test.

The Agreement defines the classes of driving permits that will be subject to exchange after the agreement enters into force, namely the exchange of AM, A1, A2, A, B, B1, BE, C1, C, D1, D1E, D and DE driving licenses will be possible without passing theoretical or practical test.

“Agreement between Georgia and the Hellenic Republic of on the Mutual Recognition and Exchange of National Driving Permits” will enter into force in the nearest future upon completing respective legal procedures.

It is notable that similar agreements have already been signed with Ireland and the Kingdom of Spain.
