The Prime Minister of Georgia marked the 187th birthday of Ilia Chavchavadze, by saying “each of our steps must be imbued with the ideals” served by the author, publicist and poet during his lifetime.

“Ilia Chavchavadze was a person gifted with a completely versatile talent, an amazingly versatile talent. He acted in different areas, in all areas he left a special mark on our country, and it is impossible that such a person was not specially given by God to our country.

Of course, it is very important that in 1987 Ilia Chavchavadze was canonised and was baptised as St. Ilia the Righteous. This is the best assessment of the work that Ilia Chavchavadze did for his country, his homeland and his homeland"s beliefs.

We must ensure care of the legacy that Ilia Chavchavadze left us as much as possible. Each of our steps should be imbued with the ideals served by him. Chavchavadze had absorbed the best of European culture while not forgetting Georgian culture. Throughout his life, he served to protect the national identity of our country, to protect our values. He ingeniously expressed in 3 words the main pillar of our national identity - homeland, language, faith”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
