Georgia’s positioning after January 20 will depend on whether Trump can fulfill his promises to end the war and defeat informal influences - Mdinaradze

The Executive Secretary of Georgian Dream claimed if the US President-elect Donald Trump could manage to “completely eradicate informal influences in the US bureaucracy”, the “pressure on Georgia” would be “lifted from any direction”.

Mamuka Mdinaradze said, Trump and his incoming administration were often mentioning “the deep state”, in reference to “informal influences embedded in bureaucracy”.

“Georgia’s positioning would depend on the events that would unfold after Trump’s inauguration and on the extent to which Trump would be able to fulfil his promises.

We should neither lose hope nor set unrealistic expectations for the period following January 20. It is important to remember Trump’s 2 promises, both of which align with Georgia’s interests: ending the war, which would eliminate any interest in turning Georgia into a second front and dismantling the “Deep State”.

It doesn’t matter whether people like Trump or whether he likes us. What truly matters is his ability to reduce or eliminate the “Deep State”, which refers to informal influences within the state bureaucracy. If he succeeds, Georgia’s situation will significantly improve. Conversely, if he struggles with this endeavour, it will become increasingly difficult for us to achieve our goals.

Global forces seeking either local or global conflict exert pressure on Georgia through these informal influences, particularly the so-called “Deep State”. While we are managing this pressure now and will continue to do so, a great deal will depend on the extent to which these informal influences are weakened. The weaker they become, the stronger our country will be”, - said Mamuka Mdinaradze.
