The Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure will likely merge - Papuashvili

The Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure will likely merge. Such a statement made today Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

A journalist asked Shalva Papuashvili whether the position that the Government intended to create for Mamuka Mdinaradze would still be established and whether the Parliament would discuss it.

"We will have a discussion on the project related to changes in the government structure during the upcoming session week. The position of State Minister will no longer be created. When it was announced that the position of State Minister for the Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies would be abolished, a position in the same direction was [initially] intended to be created.

Regarding the abolition, the position of State Minister for the Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies will be abolished, and the position for regional coordination will not be created. Discussions are ongoing, and the Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure will likely merge. The tasks that the Prime Minister assigned to Mamuka Mdinaradze, including the coordination of law enforcement agencies, were based, among other things, on his [Mdinaradze`s] personal capabilities.

He performed this function very well, and this coordination is set up very effectively. There was a desire to do the same regarding coordination in the regional direction as well. Given that he made the decision to leave politics, there is no longer a need for this [to create the minister`s position]. The creation of this position was conceived based on Mamuka Mdinaradze`s political knowledge, weight, and experience", - said the Speaker.
