The State Security Service has detained five sportsmen. According to "Courier" five basketball players are involved in the match fixing incidents. Reportedly Vazha Kvaratskhelia, the coach of the basketball club "Sokhumi" is between detainees.
Zaza Machaladze, Irakli Berishvili and Davit Berishvili, the coach of basketball club "Sokhumi" Vazha Kvaratskhelia and co-owner of the club - Temur Datiakashvili are between detainees.
" An investigation established, that Vazha Kvarastskhelia and Temur Datikashvili with the assistance of international referees fixed desired scores during various matches of Georgian Basketball Super League in exchange of sum of money. Vazha Kvaratskhelia and Temur Datikishvili demanded GEL 12 000 for each so-called fixed match, the part of sum, GEL equivalent to USD 2000 was intended for referees,"0 reads the statement released by the State Security Service.
The Investigation is underway on the fact of commercial bribery, sub-paragraph "a" of article 221 of Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages a imprisonment from 4 to 6 years.
The president of basketball club "Sokhumi" rules out the possibility of match fixing.
