Gender problem in court system - Council of Justice to discuss Naz Janezashvili"s initiative

An initiative of Nazi Janezashvili, the non-judge member of the High Council of Justice will be discussed at the session today. The case concerns the issue of gender equality in the judiciary. According to Nazi Janezashvili, 160 out of 298 judges are women, but female judges are not appointed to decision-making positions in the judiciary, which is a significant problem.

"The council should take effective steps and when they appoint a judge on the position of a Chairman, they should take into consideration the principle of gender equality," Nazi Janezashvili said.

Ana Dolidze speaks about the problem of gender equality as well. A newly appointed member of the High Council of Justice says that the problem may be solved if chairpersons will be elected by judges.
