Vashadze and Merkel, Saakashvili and Ugulava - The Center for Georgian Politics s Helsinki Today

The Center of Georgian Politics is Helsinki today. Opposition representatives held meetings with influential leaders in the capital of Finland. Angela Merkel spoke to Grigol Vashadze in Helsinki at the European People"s Party Congress. The main issue was the second round of the presidential elections and the opposition"s strategy.

One of the most influential leaders of the EU was interested in whether the opposition intends to unite for the second round. Grigol Vashadze says that the Chancellor of Germany knows how the first round was conducted and what problems are ahead in the second round.

The European People"s Party, which unites up to 2000 representatives from 40 countries, dedicates a part of a special resolution to Georgia"s presidential elections. In the ninth chapter of the document, the influential political parties of the European Union condemn violence that began in the pre-election period against the opposition and continues to this day.

Johannes Hahn, the EU Commissioner confirmed that the European Union is closely monitoring the second round of presidential elections. The Presidential Candidate of the United Opposition and Mikheil Saakashvili met with the Commissar face to face.

The 24th Congress of the European People"s Party was attended by leaders of the two political parties - " United National Movement" and "European Georgia" from Georgia. It was the first meeting of Gigi Ugulava and Mikheil Saakashvili after the split of UNM. They did not talk about the old confrontation today.
