A public lecture is being held in the Presidential Library at this moment dedicated to the anniversary of Zviad Gamsakhurdia. The event is hosted by Sandra Roelofs. Mikheil Saakashvili addressed the participants of the meeting. According to the third president of Georgia, Zviad Gamsakhurdia was not forgiven for having an idea of
independent and free Georgia.
He also criticized Bidzina Ivanishvili, who arrived in Khibulia and talked about investigation of Zviad Gamsakhurdia"s death. According to Mikheil Saakashvili, such statements are unacceptable from those people who are acting in favor of enemies.
"Zviad Gamsakhurdia was and is our national hero. Not only in words, but officially the Georgian state granted him the title of the national hero. It has its specific reasons. Georgia was one of the rare exceptions in the former Soviet republics, which gained its independence and was the leader of the fight for freedom throughout the post-Soviet space and the main symbols of this fight were Zviad Gamsakhurdia and Merab Kostava. What he could not be forgiven was not only that he achieved something in Georgia, he could not be forgiven that he had a much greater idea than the power. The power was not his idea at all. The idea of Gamsakhurdia was to create a single Caucasian House, a common front.
"The methods have not changed, these people have not changed but they are just a bit more aggressive, the methods are the same, and their Komsomol children are using the same methods and continue to do so," - said Mikheil Saakashvili.
