Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili paid tribute to the April 9 victims and laid flowers at the memorial. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the day and said that everything must be done to make dreams of those people who died 28 years ago come true.

"For us, this is a very important day. This day was associated with our people"s struggle for independence. We should do everything for Georgia to be united, and independent, "- Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.

Recall that on April 9, 1989, , at dawn the Soviet Union"s armed forces dispersed a peaceful demonstration in the center of Tbilisi.

As a result 21 people died and thousands of people were poisoned by an unknown gas.

On April 9 1991 the Supreme Council of Georgia declared independence of the country from the former Supreme Soviet.
