Constitutional Amendments - Opposition accuses ruling team of blackmailing population

The package of constitutional amendments is the reason for the confrontation between the majority and the minority. Opposition parties say they will use all legal leverages to hamper the approval of the draft elaborated by the parliamentary majority.

Parliamentary opposition says the changes were adjusted to the ruling team and accuses the government of blackmailing the population especially in the part of the changes that concern the electoral system.

"The Majority addressed the political trick and its majoritarian lawmakers were campaigning in order to blackmail the entire Georgian society and in case the proposed version does not pass to restore the regressive majoritarian system," said one of the leaders of the UNM, Nugzar Tsiklauri.

The draft constitutional amendments are criticized by members of the European Georgia. According to their assessment, this project also confirmed that the goal of the amendments was to elect the president indirectly.

The parliamentary majority does not agree with the opposition"s criticism . Vice Speaker of the Parliament Gia Volsk says that the ruling team is trying to create a healthy electoral system.

It is already known that the chairman of the parliament will hold a press conference on the constitutional amendments on May 1.
