Russia-Georgia 5-day war - Georgia lost more than 400 citizens

August 8 is the day of the memory of those killed during the 2008 Russian-Georgian war. Politicians and relatives of the deceased will visit today the military cemetery. Chairperson and legislators of the Parliament of Georgia are already there at the moment. Today, the Georgian president will pay tribute to thememory of fallen soldiers in Mukhatgverdi cemetery.

The provocations ofOssetian separatists and Russian military units mobilized in the Tskhinvali region on August 7-8 2008 turned into a large-scale armed conflict. As a result of a five-day war between Russia and Georgia, Georgia has lost more than 400 citizens - more than half were civilians.

After the war, Russian occupation forces occupied the Kodori Gorge and a large part of Shida Kartli region, after which the process of creeping occupation continued.
