Another important and strictest decision of the Council of Europe on the case of Vano Merabishvili. This is the first time that the board of the Council of Europe responsible on the execution of decisions of the Strasbourg Court has challenged Merabishvili"s judgments.
The Committee does not exclude the fact that there is a connection between these judgments and the pressure that took place when Merabishvili was taken out of the cell. Because of this, the Council of Europe calls upon the Georgian government to investigate the fact, reveal responsible persons and initiate criminal prosecution.
The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will return to issue in June, 2019 and check how these commitments have been fulfilled by the Government of Georgia.
