The Public Defender responds to the process of electing judges of the Supreme Court with a special statement.According to Nino Lomjaria, the process of nominating candidates for the judges of the Supreme Court by the High Council of Justice on December 24, was not transparent and it was not known to the public that the council was guided by. It is also not known why no person outside of the court system was nominated for Parliament.
The question marks raises the fact that the 2 members of the Council of Justice were in the list presented to the Parliament of Georgia.Ombudsman urges Parliament to suspend the judicial review process, immediately begin to work on changes and amendments to the law on "General Courts" and elaborate with participation of interested stakeholders transparent procedure for electing of candidates for the Supreme Court .
