Archbishop Ioane Gamrekeli became the ruler of the Kutaisi-Gaenati Diocese. Such statement made the Metropolitan of Akhalkalaki and Kumurdo, Archbishop Nikolozi.

Two candidates, Archbishop Ioane Gamrekeli and Archbishop Melchisedek, were nominated for this position.

Some theologians have said that most clergymen would support Ioane Gamrekeli because he is a pro-Russian interest.

Also, Archbishop Nikolozi said that Bishop Grigol Katsia was appointed as the ruler of Chkondidi Diocese.
