Gelati Monastery Complex’s west wing has a temporary metal roof installed over it.

According to the Ministry of Culture, UNESCO’s highly qualified expert Ugo Tonietti supervised the process.

“The new temporary roofing is much lighter than the previous one. It protects against water ingress in any climatic conditions. At this stage, the drying process to preserve the frescoes is underway”, - says the agency.
