Ratification of the so-called agreement by the so-called Parliament of Abkhazia represents another illegal act - MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia called the “ratification of the agreement” on the transfer of Bichvinta “an another illegal act and the continuation of Russia’s policy of occupation of the indivisible regions of Georgia, which grossly violates the fundamental principles of international law.”

“The ratification of the so-called agreement by the so-called parliament of the Abkhazia occupation regime on the transfer of the Bichvinta holiday house to the Russian Federation represents another illegal act and the continuation of Russia"s occupation policy with respect to the regions of Georgia, which grossly violates the fundamental principles of international law.

In light of international law, any such agreement is null and void. Therefore, against the background of the occupation of the Abkhazia region, the so-called agreement on the transfer of the territory cannot have any legal effect.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia appeals to the international community to duly assess the Russian Federation’s yet another illegal step, which is aimed at violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the Russian Federation to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and fulfill its international obligations, including under the EU-brokered ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008”, - reads the statement of the agency.
