In certain cases, those having publicly stated that they have information and evidence pertaining to possible offenses committed during the election, are not cooperating with the investigation, reads the statement, released by the Prosecution Service of Georgia

“In order to inform the public, we would like to state that the Prosecution Service of Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Special Investigative Service are investigating 47 criminal cases into alleged offenses committed in the pre-election period and on the Election Day. In particular, the investigated offenses are classified as electoral fraud, influencing the voters’ will, violation of the secrecy of the vote, vote-buying, interference with journalist activities, violence or threat of violence on the election commission premises or during pre-election agitation, and damage and destruction of property.

The investigations were launched based on statements of the opposition, the ruling party, the Central Election Commission and NGOs as well as the information disseminated through the media.

The investigating authorities are intensively summoning and interviewing those possessing information about or having a connection with the alleged offenses committed in the election process. The relevant forensic examinations have been ordered, the video files are being studied, individuals are being identified and appropriate investigative and procedural actions are being carried out.

In addition, considering a high public interest, we would like to inform you that two persons have been arrested in relation to the electoral fraud that took place at the 69th precinct in Marneuli.

It is noteworthy that in certain cases, those having publicly stated that they have information and evidence pertaining to possible offenses committed during the election process, are not cooperating with the investigation up until now and refuse to provide the relevant information, which hinders the investigation process.

The Prosecution Service of Georgia urges them to promptly appear at the investigating bodies and cooperate with them to ensure a rapid, effective and objective investigation”.
