Special Investigation Service is investigating the fact of unlawful interference with the journalist’s professional activities committed on October 26

The Special Investigation Service [SIS] is investigating the fact of unlawful interference with the journalist’s professional activities committed on October 26, 2024, under Article 154 (1) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

“The initiation of the investigation was based on the reports received from the media ombudsman, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and through the hotline of service, as well as the interviews conducted, which were related to 17 incidents related to journalists in different regions of Georgia. Based on the report, 13 cases out of the above-mentioned facts, did not contain signs of crime. Nevertheless, in connection with each case, the investigators of the SIS contacted the journalists and cameramen several times after receiving the report and ensured prompt legal response. At the moment, only 5 journalists and 1 cameraman have appeared in the investigation service to provide relevant information.

The Special Investigation Service is carrying out all necessary investigative and procedural activities on the case”, - reads the statement of SIS.
