The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, claimed “things are not going in the right direction” in Georgia, on the backdrop of ongoing public protests following the Government’s decision to halt the EU accession talks until 2028.
In her comments ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Kaja Kallas noted the bloc would discuss the consequences of the Georgian Government using what she described as “repression” against the opposition.
“We have had these discussions. We are 27 democratic countries with our own opinions and this takes time. We have presented a list of sanctioned people who, as you know, use force against the opposition.
We are also discussing how to limit visa-free travel and there are member states that want to task the Commission with developing this proposal”, - said Kaja Kallas.
