Aleko Elisashvili, a member of the Strong Georgia opposition coalition, was released on a 4,000 GEL bail after being detained on December 4.
He had been sentenced to 2 months’ pre-trial detention.
The Prosecutor’s Office has asked the court to change this preventive measure. Elisashvili is charged under Article 156, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code, which relates to the persecution of a person for political activity by violence, and carries a potential sentence of up to three years’ imprisonment.
