The employee of the Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – 42-year-old Giorgi Lelashvili, who tragically died a few days ago during a fire extinguishing operation, was laid to rest at St. George’s Cathedral escorted by a honor guard.
The Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Minster of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri, Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ioseb Chelidze and the Head of the Emergency Management Service, Temur Mghebrishvili, expressed their condolences to the family, employees and relatives.
The funeral was also attended by other senior officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, employees, firefighters and representatives of the Emergency Management Service administration.
Giorgi Lelashvili was performing firefighting operations in a building on Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue in Tbilisi on December 21, when a wall collapsed, killing a firefighter. He had worked in the agency for 12 years and had participated in many important events.
The guard of honor honored the memory of the deceased with a special salute, and after the funeral, he presented the Georgian national flag to his family members.
