In recent period, law enforcement officers have exposed 2,370 drug-related crimes. Such a statement made today the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze.
"We would like to provide public with information on the police measures implemented by the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in recent days.
As we have informed the public, as a result of the operational and investigative actions carried out by the employees of the Central Criminal Police Department in recent days, 2 foreign citizens have been detained on charges of illegal purchase and storage of a particularly large amount of narcotics and illegal planting as well as cultivation of a plant containing a particularly large amount of narcotics. During the personal search and search activities held in residential places of the detained persons, a particularly large amount of various types of narcotics was seized, including:
More than 7 liters of liquid "cocaine" and 40 grams of "cocaine" crystals. Items necessary for selling drugs were also seized.
The investigation established that the defendants had set up a laboratory in a temporary place of residence and illegally manufactured drugs by using liquid "cocaine."
From a special greenhouse set up for cultivating a drug-containing plant, particularly large amount of "cannabis plant" was seized.
The committed crime envisions up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues its uncompromised fight against drug-related crime and takes strict measures in accordance with law against drug dealers.
We would like to remind the public once again that the Georgian Parliament has significantly tightened the punishment for drug-related crime, in particular, for the purchase, storage and sale of narcotics.
In addition to the mentioned, administrative imprisonment has been imposed for drug use.
In recent period, law enforcement officers have exposed 2,370 drug-related crimes. Herewith, 1,712 people have been held accountable for committing the aforementioned crimes, out of which 157 have been held accountable for selling narcotics.
As a result of a large-scale measures taken by the police in various criminal cases, the following drugs were seized:
4,500 pills of "Subotex" and "Suboxine";
2.5 kg of "Methadone";
1 kg of "Alpha PVP";
2.7 kg of "Pregabalin" also known as "Lyrica";
72 kg of "marijuana";
150 kg of "plant cannabis".
