Investigation Service continues active efforts to detect and prevent crimes in financial-economic field – in July agency exposed various types of criminal activities

Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia continues its active efforts to detect and prevent crimes in the financial-economic field. The agency exposed various types of criminal activities in July.

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service, on July 4, one person was detained on the fact of storage and transportation of excisable goods subject to marking, without excise marks, in particularly large quantities. The accused person, along the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway, with a specially arranged hiding place in the cabin of the truck under his control, transported a total number of 12 380 boxes of cigarettes without excise marks, total value of which equals GEL 56 000. Investigation is underway under the third part of the Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 6 to 8 years.

On July 9, as a result of joint complex activies carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service, together with the representatives of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, one person was detained on the fact of storage and transportation of excisable goods subject to marking, without excise marks. As a result of investigative activities, in Samegrelo region, total number of 3 180 boxes of different brands of non-excised tobacco, intended for sale, were seized from the accused person. Total market value of the seized goods equals GEL 14 946. Investigation is underway under the third part of the Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 6 to 8 years.

On July 9, as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, Investigation Service, in coordination with representatives of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, exposed one person on the fact of importing particularly large amount of goods through the customs border of Georgia, in violation of customs regulations. Investigation determined that the citizen of the Russian Federation, through the customs check-point „Sadakhlo-Vehicle“, hidden from the customs control, transported 57,74 grams of gold jewelry products through the customs border of Georgia, total customs value of which equals GEL 15 209. Investigation is underway under the first part of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.

On July 10, as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service, two individuals were exposed on the fact of illegal business activities in Samtskhe-Javakheti region, conducting currency exchange operations without the relevant mandatory permit. As a result of the investigative activities carried out, a large amount of Georgian and foreign currency was seized, including: GEL 47 396, RUR 110 450, TRY 37 700, EUR 1 050, AMD 40 300 and USD 1 106. Investigation is underway under the first part of the Article 192 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 1 to 3 years.
