Anzor Kvaratskhelia, who was detained on charges of assaulting a police officer, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison

Anzor [Anri] Kvaratskhelia, a 26-year-old protester detained early in December, 2024, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in jail as the Tbilisi City Court found him guilty of throwing a "Molotov cocktail" towards riot police during the protest rally.

Judge Jvebe Nachkebia delivered the ruling today, July 18.

Kvaratskhelia was charged with assaulting police, which carries a prison sentence of 4 to 7 years. His defense has challenged the allegations, pointing to a lack of evidence and a forensic report stating that it was impossible to identify the alleged perpetrator.
