The NAEC has published the statistics of elective subjects for the 2026 Unified National Examinations

According to the statistical information of the National Assessment and Examinations Center, the highest interest among university applicants was recorded for History and Mathematics among the elective subjects. Other in-demand subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Civic Education, Geography, Physics, Literature, and Fine and Applied Arts.

The statistical data is distributed as follows:

History was chosen by – more than 19,700 applicants;
Mathematics was chosen by – more than 15,400 applicants;
Biology was chosen by – more than 4,500 applicants;
Chemistry was chosen by – more than 2,500 applicants;
Civic Education was chosen by – more than 2,500 applicants;
Geography was chosen by – more than 2,500 applicants;
Literature was chosen by – more than 1,700 applicants;
Physics was chosen by – more than 1,100 applicants;
Fine and Applied Arts was chosen by – more than 280 applicants.

The data shows that the interests of the applicants are diverse and cover both humanitarian as well as exact and natural science disciplines. The high demand for History and Mathematics remains steady, similar to the previous year. The statistics of elective subjects provide important information about the applicants’ interests, professional priorities, and the demand for higher education programs.
