500 pheasants released into the wild in Vashlovani protected areas

As part of ongoing efforts to restore species and strengthen their populations in protected areas, 500 Common Pheasants were released into the wild at several locations within Vashlovani Protected Areas. The initiative contributes to the restoration and reproduction of the species within its natural range.

The protection and restoration of species, as well as the strengthening of their populations, is one of the key priorities of the Agency of Protected Areas. To this end, various projects are being implemented in coordination with the National Wildlife Agency, aimed at preserving Georgia’s biodiversity and protecting natural ecosystems.

The Common Pheasant is one of the oldest inhabitants of Georgia’s wildlife. Its return to the natural environment is important for the conservation of the species and the reinforcement of its population.

The birds were donated to Vashlovani Protected Areas by the Cartu Charitable Foundation. Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family have been supporting the breeding of rare bird species and their reintroduction into the wild for many years.

Through an initiative funded by Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family, several thousand pheasants, chukars and grey partridges have already been released into the wild in Georgia.
