Opposition hopes Venice Commission will be critical of constitutional amendments

The Constitutional Commission has completed three- month work. The revised draft of the constitution has been adopted without consensus and is the turn of the Venice Commission and General Public Discussion.

Opposition parties say they plan to cooperate with the Venice Commission on the election system and the rule of electing the president. Irakli Abesadze, a member of the European Georgia, says that according to the document received by the Constitutional Commission, the new rule of electing the parliament will still be unfair.

Nino Kalandadze, a member of the political council of the United National Movement, hopes that the Venice Commission will be critical of the constitutional amendments, namely of the president`s election rules and the election of the Parliament.

"These constitutional amendments provide us with the usurpation of power and concentration of power in one hand so that people are no longer able to elect the main three persons who rule the country and the government," Nino Kalandadze said.
