Jens Stoltenberg is already in Tbilisi. The NATO Secretary General"s plane arrived at Shota Rustaveli airport a few minutes ago. Stoltenberg will begin official meetings tomorrow. He will meet with the President of Georgia, as well as the Prime Minister, Chairman of the Parliament.
The NATO Secretary General will also attend NATO-Georgia joint exercises, led by Georgian Defense Forces.
Jens Stoltenberg was welcomed by the Georgian Foreign Minister at Tbilisi Airport. Davit Zalkaliani spoke about the importance of the NATO Secretary General"s visit.
"The visit is being held before the NATO Jubilee Ministerial and the whole week is extremely intense, in the context of the relationship with NATO. NATO Secretary General"s visit, which also coincides with NATO"s exercises. In the same week, we have a meeting of NATO Military Committee in Georgia. The NATO General Assembly"s Representation will be very high and we will have a separate meeting within the framework of the NATO-Georgia Council in Brussels that will be dedicated to the Black Sea security issues, "Davit Zalkaliani said.
Georgia"s Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Aleksandre Maisuradze spoke about the importance of Jens Stoltenberg"s visit to Georgia.
"It is a very important visit from the point of view of political support and further deepening of practical cooperation. As you know, this is the first time when exercises will be implemented in Georgia under the auspices of the training and evaluation center. This is another clear demonstration of the success of NATO-Georgia package of measures, "Alexander Maisuradze said.
