Constitutional amendments - Non-parliamentary opposition calls on president to use veto power

The representatives of non-parliamentary opposition call on the President of Georgia to use veto on constitutional amendments. Leaders of opposition parties blame the ruling team in cheating the public regarding the promise of "Georgian Dream" about the adoption of the Constitution and the Venice Commission recommendations.

"The president should definitely veto the project. Which is tailored to interests of only one political organization and restricts democracy in the country, "- Bachuki Kardava, leader of the NDP said.

The abolition of the majoritarian system and transition to the proportional system in the 2020 parliamentary elections remains the principal issue for the opposition. According to politicians, the government is implementing one-party interests` changes.

Non-parliamentary opposition believes that in case of approval of the draft constitution, it will have no legitimacy.
