Regulations will be tightened to prevent illegal migration

In order to prevent illegal migration, the regulations will be amended to include additional mechanisms - Prime Minister said at the government meeting.

According to the PM, the package of amendments is prepared by the Ministry of Justice.

According to the amendments, new regulations are introduced for foreign citizens who wish to obtain a residence permit in Georgia.
"These amendments envisage innovations in the issuance of temporary residence permits for foreigners and the reason for this is the fact that some foreign citizens improperly enjoy the existing regulations. There are cases when a foreigner illegally staying in Georgia simultaneously requests an asylum and a residence permit," Kvirikashvili said.

The term of a temporary permit increases to 12 years. Today its maximum duration is 6 years. Besides, if a foreign citizen does not have a motivation to stay in Georgia permanently , after 6 years he will get temporary permission and not permanent residence ", - said the Prime Minister.
