Cannabis Cultivation / Export Bill became the reason for confrontation between the "Georgian Dream" government branches.
Some of the MPs demanded the bill to be withdrawn by the government. The members of the ruling team think that this initiative has become one of the reasons why the "Dream" presidential candidate was not supported by the voters.
The author of the draft law is the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Accordingly, the government will not be able to withdraw from the parliament without the permission of the government. But the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs states that the initiative is not on the agenda and therefore "anxieties" are inappropriate. Natia Mezvrishvili reminded the MPs about their place and called for patience.
"As for the cultivation, a number of statements were made that the consideration of this issue had been postponed for an indefinite term. It was not considered at yesterday"s committee session and it will not be dsicussed either today.
As for the withdrawal of the draft law, four MPs have raised this issue, but withdrawal has its own procedures and they, as well as government members are well aware of it. The author of the draft law is the government and if it decides to withdraw the draft law, it will be withdrawn. The issue is not on the agenda and therefore, it is unreasonable to worry about it," said Natia Mezvrishvili.
Why now and before the decisive second round of the election, when initiating of the Cannabis Cultivation Bill was preceded by the Patriarchate"s acute position, the authorities did not take into account the opinion of the authoritative institution. Archbishop Anthony welcomes the discussion of the draft bill, but also confirms that the move was taken by the authorities because of the elections.
