The powers of the Parliament of Georgia are being increased. The regulations of the legislative body are amended, according which the government will be accountable to submit reports on its activities to the Parliament more intensively .
According to the new edition, the plenary sessions of the legislative body will not be held in Kutaisi but in Tbilisi since 2019.
The representatives of the ruling team made comments on the changes. According to the regulations, the government will be accountable to the parliament.
"A six-member group of parliament can ask any official a question and this official will be responsible and obliged to personally present the answer to the question at the plenary sitting of the Parliament. By means of this amendment, we will regularly hear the members of the government not only in the committees but at the plenary sessions. We will not have a single session, when the representatives of the government will not be represented at the parliamentary session, "- said Tamar Chugoshvili, Vice-Speaker of the Parliament.
According to the amendments, the Prime Minister will be obliged to submit a report to the legislative body once a year.
The opposition does not support the amendments because the opponents of the government think that in certain cases MPs` supervisory functions, on the contrary, are restricted.
