It is a natural reaction of all of Georgia"s friends - the statement was made by the head of the political council of the "European Georgia" on the a critical statement of the US Department of State regarding the presidential elections.
According to Giga Bokeria, it is important that the change of power in Georgia will be carried out peacefully. For that reason, Bokeria thinks that change of the election system is necessary and the country must move to the proportional-regional electoral system.
"This is a natural reaction from all the friends of Georgia, in the light of the presidential election and especially of the second round. A large part of the Georgian society and all our friends expect fundamental changes, because this condition is a dead end and this situation is incompatible with further development of democracy and security of Georgia. Of course, the additional problem is the unfriendly political reaction that we see from Ivanishvili"s team so far. Nevertheless, our task is to put pressure our government in the interests of our country and through the pressure of our international partners move forward to the proportional electoral system, "said Giga Bokeria.
According to the US State Department official, Washington is concerned with numerous violations and will closely monitor how the Georgian side will fulfill the new constitution.
