"Millions Signature for Fair Elections" - 20 Opposition parties begin collecting signatures

"Millions Signature For Fair Elections" - 20 Opposition parties are beginning to collect signatures from today demanding change of electoral system. According to the law, 20 thousand signatures are enough to present a specific initiative, but the opposition says they are ready to collect a million signatures and show the government how important the change is for the country. The opposition demands the parliamentary elections to be fully proportional.
"It will be a fair distribution, because the existing mixed system does not provide for the relevant representation of the choice of the Georgian voters in the Parliament," said Alexander Baramidze, a member of Free Democrats.
Giorgi Baramidze, the member of the political council of the United National Movement states that there should be fair rules in the country and this is exactly what is going to be a proportional electoral system.
"European Georgia" states that proportional model is the issue, which is the consensus in the full opposition spectrum.
"This is a key issue for Georgian democracy, transition to proportional elections, which is important for all democratic opposition and all other activist or non-governmental groups in Georgia," said Irakli Kiknavelidze.
