Salome Zourabichvili made a statement regarding the first president`s anniversary. The fifth president of Georgia spoke about the importance of Zviad Gamsakhurdia .
According to Salome Zourabichvili, the historic, bold step of Gamsakhurdia has opened the way for the construction of a modern state of Georgia.
"I especially would like, as the 5th President of Georgia, to congratulate his family and the whole community on this day. On this day on March 31, 1991 a referendum was held and this day as the most important date entered into the history of our country. The idea of the referendum, the initiative and organization itself belongs to Zviad Gamsakhurdia. His historic, bold step led to the construction of a modern state of Georgia. This day is one of the most turning points for the nation with centuries-old state history, "- Salome Zourabichvili said.
