Non-governmental organizations have released a statement on June 20 developments. The appeal is signed by 20 organizations. The third sector notes that the developments are outraging. The statement noted that the public once again witnessed the disproportionate use of force by police against large-scale civil protests, resulting in the arrest of dozens of people and severe health injuries. The NGOs call on the government to take political responsibility for the serious processes and take the next steps to dismiss the chairperson of parliament.
"We urge the government to take political responsibility for the development of processes and take the following steps:Taking into consideration the reasons for the political crisis, the Chairman of the Parliament should leave the occupied position;Taking into consideration the grave consequences of the use of disproportionate force against the participants of the demonstrations by the law enforcers and the police operation, the Minister of Internal Affairs should also resign;In the next few days, the government should take effective steps to de-escalate the situation and start a real dialogue with political and public groups, including on transition to the proportional electoral system for the next parliamentary elections;
We call on the police to ensure a peaceful demonstration of the right to manifest at the rally today and prevent the disproportionate use of force;
We call on the Prosecutor"s Office of Georgia to ensure the absence of disproportionate force, alleged arbitrary detentions, physical abuse of detainees; In addition, we address political opposition to realize its role and responsibility in the possible development of processes and refrain from violent actions.
